FINOLHU – March 2018

Message from the Resort Manager

Dear Islanders,

“Great things happen when there is a gathering of great minds.”

A hearty welcome to one and all. The aim of the Island Roohu Blog is to bring closer together, the islanders of Finolhu and those people who have an interest in the resort, its issues, development and general talking points—enabling islanders to highlight issues, advertise events and float ideas.

I hope that it will encourage greater communication and therefore interaction between the islanders of Finolhu.

I hope you enjoy what the blogging platform has to offer and that you are an active member of what will hopefully become a vibrant, informative, entertaining and supporting aspect of our islanders community.

Warmest regards,

Marc Reader
Resort Manager

Mohamed YoosufROCKSTAR

Mohamed Yoosuf – F&B Service Supervisor

Mohammed has established himself as one of the strongest Restaurant Supervisors within the F&B Department since he joined Finolhu. He has shown exceptional performance going beyond and above the expectations from a Restaurant Supervisor, managing day-to-day duties and exceeding the expectations of guests.

Having been frequently acknowledged by guests for his dedicated service, he has personally contributed a lot to lift up the service standards of Fish & Crab Shack. His knowledge and experience has a great influence in educating his colleagues and improving their strength. His initiative to ensure that the required paper works on each audit goes well. He has gone through all the needed areas and improved them as highlighted from the previous audits. He also received so many positive guest’s comments on TripAdvisor for his friendly and caring attitude, in particular from families with kids who were blown away by his service. He is a precious gem for this company!

Maumoon RasheedSUPERHERO

Maumoon Rasheed – Revenue Auditor

Maumoon is a good team player with multi-task abilities. He joined Finolhu team initially as Night Auditor and recently got promoted to Revenue Auditor because of his positive attitude and eagerness to learn new areas. Last month February, he created his own new reports to cross check beverage package postings and dine-around inclusions, which assisted the management in decision-making and final reporting. He took the initiative in building a new setup for OC/ENT reporting which would have cost huge money if the company contacted a service provider.

In addition, he took over the Accounts Receivable section whilst Credit Controller was on leave during February. Maumoon assists his colleagues in completing their works within the given due date. He will work extra hours to complete the tasks assigned to him.

Maumoon proved that he is one of the greatest assets for the growth of the company.

Bank of Maldives recently initiated this social media competition, which aims to highlight the Maldives. The participant must post a photo that will display the natural beauty of Maldives and/or beauty of the Maldivian community. There were about 20,000 photos submitted for this competition with the hashtag #AharengeRaajje.

One of our Islanders, Moosa Shan (Front Office Supervisor) participated in this Instagram Challenge and his photo entry swimming underwater with the pufferfish was selected as one of the winning photos. A grand winner was selected, five runners-up were chosen, and Moosa’s photo entry was selected as one of the five runners-up.

We had a quick chat with Moosa and we would like to share this to you:

What made you decide to participate in this competition? One of my friends shared the link and told me to join this competition. I submitted my photo entry and it was out of fun.

When and where was this photo taken? My photo entry with the pufferfish was taken in a reef somewhere in Baa Atoll when I went out for snorkelling with my friends.

Why did you choose this photo? I decided to submit this photo entry because it is very unusual and uncommon to swim underwater with a pufferfish. It is not every day that you get a chance to see a pufferfish underwater and it was an unexpected encounter for me at that time.

The Earth Hour Movement started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia and mobilised millions of organisations, business and government institutions to act on a sustainable future. The event is held annually and organised by World Wide Fund Nature (WWF).
