Message from Resort Manager

JNA challenging September, principally owing to the unexpected downshift in the volume of business!

Although, we were struggling to achieve our financial goals, the morale and determination of our leaders supported by their team of islanders, were kept on a high note whilst proper measures were taken to keep the ball rolling. Thank you to all the islanders who were strongly engaging in promoting the activities and the TSMIC fanatic programme.

We have also witnessed a growth in the participation of our islanders in our BRAND TRAITS Fun Challenge! Remember, it is always healthy to take a pause out of your busy schedule and join the fun gathering, hence allowing us to strengthen our Roohu in the community.

The Huddle, expertly driven by our Talent Development Manager Ailish, has taken some new dimensions. One morning, we were engaged in a warrior training from Visiting Coach Lindley, where our fitness level was tested to the full and on another morning, we were taken to the Tennis Courts, where we had the privilege to be mastered like in a Tennis Academy by our lovely Napha. It was for certain a debut for a few and a test for many. Through the grapevine, I heard that the next huddle will be more amusing! Watch Out!

The counselors from Sultan’s Village together with The Oceaners also participated in the Worldwide Kids Certification Training, based in the UK. They were all certified with high remarks. Congratulations!

The Katheeb/a also attended an important training with the International Institute of Modern Butlers with the aim to polish their standards of service and be on the marks to welcome their notable guests for this festive season.

With a note of congratulations, Amilla Fushi was also internationally recognised during the South Asia Travel Awards as the Leading Wellness and Spa Resort for South Asia and Maldives.

Lastly, thank you for your great support in welcoming warmly our new Director of Human Resources – Ms. Patsy L. Kruger in our community. We wish her a great journey with us!

Have a wonderful October! A number of activities shall be scheduled for the rest of the year, as we are making our final arrangements for the Festive Season!

“Coffee with Resort Manager”

As part of our ongoing engagement with our Islanders, we exercise a weekly coffee session specially hosted by our Resort Manager – Jean Noël.

The activity is a great opportunity to connect with all islanders and to discuss our journey and life in the community.

We have highlighted the respect of the segregation system and the effort of the people behind sorting the garbage at heart of the house operations. We shall continue with our ongoing campaign on proper waste management and eliminating plastic in all areas.

We look forward to seeing more of you for the next coffee sessions with our Resort Manager, every Tuesday at EBC.

Farewell Gathering for Atheef

In celebration of hard work, dedication and commitment to the company, the management team has prepared a very especial gathering for our outgoing Security and Safety Manager – Ismail Atheef.

Atheef has been with our family for almost 4 years, ensuring everyone’s safety is on top priority and has been a great leader and a sincere colleague to the Amilla family.

We wish Atheef a great journey ahead, whilst creating new memories with his new family.

You will always belong to Your Island Home, we will surely miss you Atheef!

Farewell Shimal!

It is time to say goodbye to our dear colleague Shimal….

Shimal joined Amilla Fushi in March 2016 as HR Coordinator and was promoted to the position of HR Supervisor. After two and half years of service, Shimal left us to pursue his career goals.

We thank Shimal for his hard work and dedication. We wish him all the best for his future plans!

Olive Ridley Presentation by Dr. Claire

Olive 3From the 10th to 12th September 2018, we had the privilege of having Dr. Claire Petros who is a turtle veterinarian, talk on behalf of the Olive Ridley Project (ORP) to our staff and guests here at Amilla Fushi about the importance of sea turtle conservation.

Dr. Claire educated our islanders and guests about the conservation measures undertaken by the ORP to ensure the protection of sea turtles in the Indian Ocean. In particular, the Olive Ridley turtles, this species of sea turtle is the most vulnerable to getting entangled in ‘ghost nets’, which are lost, discarded or abandoned fishing nets left at sea. Consequently, due to the pelagic lifestyle of Olive Ridley turtles, they are the most vulnerable species at getting caught in ghost nets which can be fatal.

On Claire’s first night, a presentation was held for the guests about who the ORP are and what work they carry out, she also included some examples of the turtles which had been rehabilitated and released back into the wild. This included one of our very own turtles (Ali Jappo) which is a critically endangered hawksbill turtle. This turtle had been rescued a year ago due to having a large hook in her throat. Fortunately Claire and her team managed to remove the hook which allowed us to return the turtle back to her resident reef where our very own Turtle Safari trip is held.  The evening was a real success with all the guests engaging with Claire and gaining a new understanding about the importance of turtle conservation in the Maldives.Olive 4

Not only did Claire provide captivating talks to our guests and staff, she also joined our Turtle Safari trips with $20 per guest of the procedures donated to the ORP to aid with their turtle conservation work. Prior to going out to see the turtles, Claire presented further information to guests about how to act appropriately in the water with the turtles, she also tested the guests on their knowledge of the different species of sea turtles, and also how to use photo identification to determine individual turtles based on their facial scales which are unique like our fingerprint.
The guests thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Claire coming along on our trips and showing them first-hand how to safely take photos and act respectfully in the water with the turtles.

On behalf of Amilla Fushi, we would like to thank Dr. Claire Petros for coming to our resort to spread the word about the rewarding and crucial work undertaken by the ORP, we look forward to working very closely with the ORP in the near future.

TSMIC Tree of Life Training Sessions

We have launched a new training project for both Resorts (Amilla Fushi & Finolhu) on the Brand Traits, Mission, Vision and Golden Behaviour of the company called:

“The TSMIC Tree of Life”.

The sessions happened on September 10th and 13th with the purpose to deliver and share the corporate spirit among all islanders, proudly representing the Brand Traits colors! Intuitive Generosity (green team), Idyllic Escape (pink team), Rich Experience (yellow team) and Natural Allure (blue team). So far 70 islanders attended the training.

The Brand Trait Houses completion was held last September 24th at EBC, where the 4 Brand Trait Houses faced a fun relay and sporty challenges organised by Intuitive Generosity House to gain the highest score and win the trophy!

Congratulations Natural Allure! Keep the good work Idyllic Escape! Next month, Rich Experience House will have to come with other activities to bring the trophy back into play!

HUDDLE 13th September 2018

On Thursday, 13th September, the Management team  have gathered altogether at the Tennis court for an energetic and fun morning activity lead by Napha and her tennis professionals Lana and Shamaam.

The activity was followed by a healthy and fresh breakfast. All management team kept focusing on the Start, Stop, Continue strategies in order to keep improving our Roohu community.

Thursday, September 6th morning, we had great fun for Brand Traits Management Activities on the beach. They all worked closely together in order to build the Brand Traits spirit within the resort and among all islanders, after a challenging but fun workout with Lindley and a fulfilling breakfast at EBC. Keep up the good work!

New Islanders Orientation

12 Islanders have attended the  General Orientation held last September 11th and 12th at Amilla Fushi. The program consists of: mainly corporate information, policies and procedures from HR, and Security, but also a lot of fun! Quizzes, ice breaking activities, coffee breaks, resort visits….Check out the pictures.

Worldwide Kids Certification Training

Exciting news for Recreation department! From 23rd to 28th of September, we welcome Mr. Ben Lincoln from World Wide Kids Company London to deliver a Child Care Training and obtain the Certification. 9 Kids Club attendants join the training (5 from Sultan Village in Amilla and 4 from Oceaneers in Finolhu).

The team were able to visit the houses and spend few hours in Finolhu to understand the two different concept and atmosphere. Great activities and great fun as per the pictures! Ben gave also a 1 hour presentation to all guest contact managers while he gave an overview of the content being covered with the recreation team, and discussed practical tips for interaction with different age groups and also the best facilities, services and products we should have in place for kids in the resort.

The training is a great opportunity together with Ben’s expertise in order to help in bringing exceptional service and attention to our “Little Guest”.


On 27th August 2018, we welcomed “Budi” from International Institute of Modern Butlers for a Butler training in Amilla Fushi. 12 of our Katheebs and Katheebas had an opportunity to participate with a 2 days classroom training and 1 day practical training in one Residence: setting up a table for breakfast, tea preparation, cigar knowledge, packing and unpacking luggage.

On 4th September, we had a graduation ceremony together with our Resort Manager Jean Noel to support and congratulate their efforts from the training. All 12 islanders are now certified Modern Butlers. Well done team!

3-Star Michelin Chef Bruno Menard from Belgium visited our culinary team at Amilla Fushi last 12th September 2018 to facilitate a three hours training and to promote a “Veliche Chocolate”.

Pure massage is developed by Beata Aleksandrowics, she is an expert on massage and based in London UK.

Beata travels the world to collect best techniques and healing traditions as Balinese massage, deep tissue, shiatsu, Thai, lomi lomi massage and combine them altogether in the unique way. Here at Javvu Spa, we believe that massage is a natural medicine, healthy and prevention.

Beata visits our properties twice a year to revise the girls and teach them more about the internal systems of the body in order to help them understand the benefit massage is giving to their guest.

F&B Gathering – Staff BBQ

On 16th September 2018, the F&B Team had a fantastic gathering with some fresh seafood BBQs to enjoy.

It was a great opportunity for the team to bond and blow off some stress after the busy operations from work and be ready the upcoming high season.

Mock up dinner set ups were created to further upsell our special dinners and to make the occasion a rich experience during their idyllic escape with us.

World Tourism Day at Amilla Fushi

Amilla Fushi celebrated the World Tourism Day held last 27th September 2018. Our culinary team had prepared a special 4-course meal at Barolo Grill which was enjoyed by our in house guests.

Rock Star Winner – Antony Stallin Vinodh (Bartender)

Anthony is a very active speedy server in bar.  He was very flexible to come on any duty and stay back to complete the task and also he is a fast learner. He is one of our key members with positive attitude and maintains the company policies and procedures. He always takes initiative to do additional needs requested by his Managers and Supervisor. He is willing to learn new things and shows interest of developing his own carrier, he has never missed any training program. No attendance issues and always punctual at work.

He loves to WOW our guests by preparing a special table decoration. His passion for service in the Bar have impressed the team over the months. During the time when changing the dispense bar, we have got huge support from Anthony and also he came duty during his off day to do a private dinner set up.

Super Hero Winner – Abdulla Faiz (Senior Staff Village Attendant) 

Faiz has been leading the welfare team in the absence of our welfare supervisor all on his own. With very minimum supervision, he has managed to prepare the accommodation of 25+ new islanders who arrived in August/September without any setbacks. He also took the initiative to welcome the new islanders on arrival jetty and assisted with their luggage to their accommodation all on his own. Faiz also took the initiative to clean the windows of all staff accommodations blocks in addition to his daily tasks.
